He teaches me to think creatively

I was so angry on him for his usual denial for healthy homemade food and it came out collectively today. I almost shouted on him, "You don't want to eat this veggie, not that gravy, then you only tell what will you eat?" And with a cute smile on his face he answered, "Make a vegetable chocolate gravy." I didn't understand how to respond on his reply. Should I laugh or cry on his innocence-cum-invention. Many times he surprises me with similar interesting answers. For every problem, he had some simple solution. Its a different thing as that was not practical every time, but that seems correct to his intellect.

In last week, while getting ready for 'Picture day', he asked me to put bow-tie on his shirt. I told him we didn't have it now, we need to buy it from market. He immediately went to his room and came back with color paper and cello-tape and said, 'Cut it like a bow-tie and stick it to my shirt'.

Bedtime story was a big fun-time for our family. While answering his questions,  many times we found a different version of single story. Our stories also begin with Grandma's stories, thirsty-crow and gingerbread man story. While listening to crow's story, he asked me, "If the water level is too low then why didn't the thirsty crow use straw instead." For a moment, I  was literally clueless about what to say but then managed to answer as its not available in jungle and that satisfies his question.

Once I was telling his a story of Anguliman, a cruel character who use to cut people's little finger and wear it around his neck as a symbol of pride and predominance. A wise man noticed it and decided to teach him a lesson. As a part of activity, the wise man asked Anguliman to cut the leaf of nearby tree and again join it back, in the same way as it was earlier. Obviously, Anguliman was not able to stick it back again in same fashion. Listening to this part of story my kid got confused and asked, "Why he has not able to join back the leaf? Does he didn't had Fevicol at his home." And later for longtime, we were make him understand that  'we can't stick everything with the help of Fevicol, we can't make all things again how they were earlier'.

There are many incidents like this and I'm sure you will be having similar experience with your kids. The moment we become parents, we feel the responsibility of raising our children, guide them, teach them about the good things in life. But many times kids response, their behavior makes us rethink about the scenario and teaches us something new that we never thought of.

In fact, there are many things about life that we can learn from them, creative thinking is one of them. Many times they come up with simple solutions for complex problems. Next time whenever you face a problem, think like a kid, keeping all the rules, regulations, limitations set by the society aside, you will surely get some creative, innovative solution.
